Love Letter #12

*|MC:SUBJECT|*
Hej,

What's your opinion on Black Friday? Madness or ideal opportunity to get that massive TV for lockdown-Netflixing? This year, many of us will be ordering both Black Friday-deals and Christmas presents online. We're sharing with you how how our client PostNord is preparing for these upcoming weeks (and what role AT is playing in it). Also, is your team in need of an injection of innovation and creativity? Then keep on scrolling!

01 E-commerce is hitting a record high

In 2019, the Swedish postal service PostNord handled 995.000 parcels during Black Friday which was 6.5% more than the year before. PostNord’s report E-barometern shows that the Swedish e-commerce grew by 39% during Q3 in 2020 compared to the previous year. Due to the continuous growth of e-commerce and on top of that the pandemic, the online orders for the upcoming Black Friday Weekend starting on November 27th and Christmas season are - unsurprisingly - expected to grow in volume.

How does PostNord prepare for such a massive increase? Another Tomorrow has been working with the Swedish logistics player for almost three years, to improve the company’s customer experience by spearheading and implementing new strategic systems and new ways of working - with Prototyping being at the core of it.

Working with visual prototypes and a prototyping mindset, multiple roles and perspectives can be included in collaboration ensuring that the focus lies on the most impactful areas – ‘building the right it before building it right’. Prototype-based solutions have greater impact and are implemented faster.

This way of working together with PostNord has generated two new solutions that have been nationally deployed and utilised across the whole organisation. One was implemented in 2019-20 while the other is being put into action as you’re reading this newsletter. Both of them have been developed in a highly visual and collaborative process: They are visualising available data in a user friendly way, adding value by turning it into coherent, real time and valuable information for the employees working in the critical parcel distribution process to take necessary actions. This has led to continuous improvements as well as increased production quality. Most importantly, users and key stakeholders have all been included in the collaborative process already from the very beginning, ensuring accountability and impact.

One of the solutions that's been developed in a highly visual and collaborative process (FYI this data is not real)

So, what steps does a company with a strong legacy need to take in order to get out of their silos and steer into a more user-centric and data-driven environment?

1. Commit on a management level and be prepared to back up the process and prototypes even when it disrupts status quo.

2. Involve key stakeholders from the start.

3. Define and prioritise internal users as a customer segment. Ask yourself: How can internal solutions be designed no less great than if they were external commercial applications?

4. Find out what valuable data already available is still not utilised and how you can visualise it and turn it into action for improvement. Because visualisations make complex information easier to understand and are more effective to trigger actions.

5. Move from Organisational Needs to (Prototype) Solutions in a rapid and iterative way based on user feedback using prototyping as the method.

02 Remote Culture Workshop
Another Tomorrow has been running several remote workshops throughout the pandemic with organisations such as PostNord, Patagonia and ICAx. Even though the briefs for these workshops differed from one another and the companies operate in various industries, they all got something in common: the longing for creative and inspirational experiences. With employees having to work from home without the opportunity of meeting each other IRL, we need to make digital experiences better. We need to find ways to make remote work great (again *pun intended*).

Does this resonate with you? Is your team struggling with the current situation? Then why not give them (and yourself) an early Christmas present? Another Tomorrow is offering a Remote Culture workshop according to your team's needs in order to inject creativity, energy and inspiration!

What to expect:
  • Kickstart lockdown 2.0 with a playful & interactive session
  • Productivity & creativity
  • Collaborative innovation opportunities
  • Aligned & thriving remote culture
