DFDS Takes Stock: Evaluating Decarbonisation Readiness in Logistics

Hear Sophie-Kim Chapman, Head of Decarbonisation at DFDS explain why they decided to use TransitionView

DFDS and Another Tomorrow have once again joined forces to advance DFDS's decarbonisation efforts. This time, to assess DFDS’s organisational transition capabilities, as the first logistics company to use Another Tomorrow’s transition capability tool to assess decarbonisation readiness.

“To successfully meet our decarbonisation targets, we cannot rely on alternative fuels and electrification alone. We also need our whole organisation to adapt and change behaviours,” explains Sophie-Kim Chapman, Head of Decarbonisation at DFDS. “Since it’s hard to measure progress until long-term projects are completed, we wanted to see if it was possible to measure our underlying organisational capabilities to decarbonise in a methodical way.”

In collaboration with climate researchers Åsa Löfgren and Sverker Jagers, Another Tomorrow has developed a survey-based tool that evaluates three critical dimensions of successful organisational transitions:

  • Willingness: Measuring awareness, attitudes, mindsets, leadership, and commitment.

  • Readiness: Assessing activities, actions, incentives, and innovation.

  • Trustworthiness: Evaluating measurement, tracking, honesty, and transparency.

“To meet market demands and stay competitive, organisations must embrace innovation. New business models, products, services, and partnerships require a deep commitment to organisational change, innovation, and iteration,” says Staffan Ekholm, CEO of Another Tomorrow. “These often-hidden layers can create blind spots for leadership, delaying impactful progress and growth. We're proud to offer a tool that reveals these layers and helps organisations focus on the actions that drive real impact.”

By pioneering this assessment, DFDS is gaining valuable insight into the drivers and obstacles for their transition, and also laying the foundation for long-term, sustainable growth.
